Would you believe that more than 32 million Americans have food allergies?! Food allergies are responsible for 1,500 deaths per year in the U.S. What is a food allergy? It is a medical condition in which exposure to food triggers a harmful immune response. It is also the 6th leading cause of chronic illness, it’s the gift that keeps giving!

Vitamin Friends is one of the few gummy vitamins that are Top-9 allergen-free! Our gummies are 100% free of wheat, shellfish, eggs, milk/dairy, fish, soy/soybeans, peanuts/tree nuts, and sesame. Because of this, we have been looking for a partner to team up with to raise awareness on allergies. About two and a half years ago, we finally found the perfect partner!

Allergy awareness

Red Sneakers for Oakley is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that spreads awareness on food allergies. They are committed to educating and advocating for Food Allergy Awareness. This foundation was established from the death of Robert and Merrill Debbs’s son, Oakley, who succumbed to anaphylaxis. The story of Oakley is one that could have been prevented if there were more individuals informed on allergies.

Oakley suffered from asthma and a peanut/tree nut allergy, which their doctor had deemed “mild”. On vacation with family, Oakley ate a piece of cake, unaware that it contained nuts. Because of what his doctor prescribed, his mother gave him an antihistamine to halt the allergic reaction, which in the end, proved to be useless. Later that night, Oakley complained of a stomachache and began vomiting. At this time, Oakley began experiencing a severe reaction of anaphylaxis and was rushed to the hospital. After three days on a ventilator, Oakley passed away in the hospital. The death of Oakley birthed an amazing organization to help/prevent similar situations for others like him.
