Don’t you just love the smell of coffee in the morning? That first sip is magical! That is until it is 2 pm and you begin crashing...then it is not so magical... The side effects of coffee are not so pretty! Insomnia, anxiety, and high blood pressure are just to name a few! What a great way to start the day! *cue eye roll* But some of us need the extra boost of energy, especially those that care for children! So, if you are not a huge fan of these symptoms and want other options, then keep on reading!
The first step might make you say “no duh!” but not a lot of people do it! And that is eating breakfast! The old saying that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is said for a reason! A study has shown that not eating breakfast in the morning results in a lack of energy and concentration. So, go eat that brekkie and get to feelin’ good!
While on the topic of food, a great way to get some energy is through what you eat! Here are some food options that may give you that boost of energy: Fatty fish, eggs, bananas, avocados (mmh avocado toast…oh sorry), apples, and so much more!
Another way to gain energy is from vitamins! You can get your daily vitamin intake through supplements or through what you eat. Vitamin B, Vitamin C, magnesium, and zinc are said to be great options!
Exercise has also been shown to be helpful! Daily movement produces a boost in hormone levels or as we like to call it, happy hormones! You can run, walk, do some yoga or Pilates, lift weights, anything to get your heart pumping and your body moving! But, as much as we love a good workout sesh, sleep is also a very important factor. Research has shown that lack of sleep affects our energy and our mental function! Be sure to aim for more than 7 or more hours of sleep, per the doctor’s recommendation!
Lastly, if you find that you still need a little bit more of a boost or if you just enjoy a warm beverage in the morning, might we suggest tea? Tea is a great alternative to coffee! Black tea is a great choice due to its antioxidants, it has properties that reduce inflammation and aids in cardiovascular complications! Green tea, Matcha, and White Tea are all great options!
In the end, if you like your morning coffee (who doesn’t?) then enjoy your coffee! But if you are looking to cut coffee out from your life and are searching for something to mix it up, then we hope our recommendations fit your needs! At the end of the day, we all need more energy every now and then, so find the way that works best for you!
